Use it up! (Day 13)
Hello Reader, I helped a client clean under her kitchen sink. We found FIVE bottles of the same cleaning spray. They were all opened and partially used. We had a good laugh because I too have been in this situation. I'm especially terrible about collecting half-empty bottles of sunscreen under our bathroom sink every summer. Enter the "Use it or Lose It" Decluttering Rule. It's a silly and to-the-point name I gave to a practice of using up what I own (or decluttering it) before buying more. It sounds simple in theory. Executing can be a little more difficult. In order to use up what you own, you have to first KNOW what you own. Otherwise, you end up with multiple versions of the same exact type of product. How do you know what you own then? First, you need to declutter your space. Toss out, recycle, or donate what will never be used or is past its useful life. Then, give everything a designated space. If you have the same category of items spread throughout the home, you may quickly lose track of what you own. Next, commit to using what you own. Be honest with yourself. If you aren't going to use it, it's time to let it go. Finally, before buying anything new, shop your home first. Adding this level of intentionality will save you money and keep the clutter out of your home. Enjoying these daily tidbits with specific tasks to complete? Keep your momentum going all year with weekly decluttering projects from The Big Declutter program. You can sign up for a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month option (NO recurring payments). The sale ends soon, and the membership will not be available again at this price for several months. Make this your year to clear the clutter. Sincerely, Brooke, Happy Simple Mom P.S.
